This short little podcast gave me lots to think about. “The road not taken” and all that. So, were you hoping that by going back and telling yourself these little pieces of wisdom (and then, presumably listening to yourself), you’d end up changing your life? Is that what you want? Would you really give up those events that shaped you and made you who you are today for different life experiences that might then change the person you are today?
I’m not sure that I would.
Or… are you thinking that changing a couple of little things isn’t really going to change all that much? Maybe you’ll explore a couple of new experiences but then they’ll eventually lead you back to where you’re supposed to be. Kind of like exploring a trail that eventually leads back to the main path of your life vs. each choice creating a brand new path for you to follow with no overlap.
See? Deep thoughts for a morning walk with the dog.
Murray! A mix of both? Haha… I suppose I was thinking of those changes as additions to what has already happened. Almost as if going back in time and telling our younger selves all that will happen – so that it still DOES happen, but with a few little changes along the way. Right instead of left, yes instead of no, etc. Not necessarily altering the tree trunk of our life, but just a few branches a long the way. I dunno. Does that make sense at all? 🙂
Yeah that totally makes sense. Not so much changing the way things happened, so much as letting your younger self know that you’ll get through the tough times. I think that’s my preference too. I look back at choices I’ve made and while I’d like to make one or two major changes along the way, I wouldn’t be able to do that without losing a good chunk of what makes me me. I mean it’s fun to play “what if”, but I’m not sure I’d want to live it. But having an older me come on down and let me know that if I did this instead of that it might not be a terrible thing would have been a very cool experience.
