Really enjoyed listening to your thoughts, Peter. For myself, I enjoyed the concert a lot more than I thought I would.
Not sure whether to condemn John Legend for not hitting the notes in Gethsemane, or applaud his efforts for sidestepping them in a way that didn’t seem toooo obvious that it was beyond his reach. My biggest problem with the number I don’t think was his fault at all. The decision to make the transition to and delivery of the line, “Alright, I’ll die..” was so flippant it felt more like whim that one of the most crucial beats of the whole enterprise. Otherwise great stuff for the most part.
I’ll have to hear that part again. I think the immediate nature of TV (having a camera in front of you, trying to play to your live audience vs the subtleties of tv acting) made for some questionable choices. I can’t imagine it’s an easy thing to navigate.
